That's right, most websites are built in the complete reverse order of what's important.
I've discovered after more than 20 years in Search Engine Optimization, that businesses are getting SEO wrong from the beginning by focusing on the design before the SEO marketing.
Everyone starts with the design and then they add SEO on as an after thought or they "do SEO" by optimizing pages after the website is completed.
Typically they're optimizing without any Real SEO™ data to validate optimizations because there is no actual real-time historical data for a new website yet.
Most everyone uses comparative data from other websites that may or may not be as relevant as they need... calling it a competitive analysis or some such nonsense.
It turns out to be a "best guess" generic exercise in mediocre results. I know because I've done it too.
